Last week, I wrote about Foursquare’s widespread growth and how some organizations are trying to utilize the location based social network. Now a locally owned Lawrence business has thrown its hat into the ring, er…square. The Sandbar recently announced its very own Foursquare special.
The Sandbar is already known as a social media friendly business with its usage of Twitter, Facebook and blogging. It was the venue of Lawrence’s only known “Swarm” badge on Foursquare so it should come as no surprise that it would have such a special. The Sandbar is a well known for its tropical drinks and the music selection on the jukebox. Obviously, it can’t offer up free drinks so it used the jukebox. The special is getting free jukebox credits with every third check-in between the hours of 5 and 9 P.M. The bar has a great idea in merging social media with a fan friendly item. It will be great to see how well this works.
Regardless of the effectiveness of this Foursquare special, kudos to The Sandbar for taking the initiative.
