Facebook profiles for businesses are illegal

by cinta5 on March 31, 2010

I had a great discussion with my friend @DebJohanning who oversees social media for Lawrence bar, @thesandbar about businesses using Facebook profiles instead of Facebook pages.  As she pointed out, it’s against Facebook’s terms of service to have a profile page for your business. Second, Facebook only allows profiles to have up to 5000 friends. This is not enough for the amount of fans your business has! Plus, there are a lot of fun things you can do with a profile page!  For example, if you’re a restaurant you can add your menu to a custom tab or include your youtube channel.

If you’d like to transfer your Facebook profile to a business profile my company can do so for an affordable price. We will also hook you up with your own Facebook.com url and migrate any photos, videos, or events you might have. For more info email info@langfordmedia.com

They're not illegal, as in “against the law”, they're just against the Facebook terms of service. You won't go to jail or face court time for making a facebook profile instead of a page : )
